IMO

The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) is the United Nations specilized agency with responsability for the safety, security and efficiency of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. Its main role is to create a regulatory framework for the shipping industry that is fair and effective, universally adopted and universally implemented. IMO has more than 170 Member States and 3 Associate Members and its Headquarters are in the United Kingdom.

RECAAP

The Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) is the first regional government-to-government agreement to promote and enhance cooperation against piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asia.
The ReCAAP Agreement was launched in November 2006 with14 Asian Contracting Parties including North, Southeast, and South Asian countries. It has 20 Contracting Parties today, including Europe (Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark, and the United Kingdom), Australia, and the United States.
The ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre (ReCAAP ISC) was established in Singapore on November 29, 2006.
At the 12th Governing Council Meeting in 2018, the Council announced that ReCAAP ISC has met the criteria to be a Centre of Excellence for information sharing in combating piracy and armed robbery at sea.

ICC INTERNATIONAL BUREAU

The ICC International Maritime Bureau (IMB) is a specialised division of the International Chamber Of Commerce (ICC). The IMB is a non-profit making organisation, established in 1981 to act as a focal point in the fight against all types of maritime crime.

One of the IMB’s principal areas of expertise is in the suppression of piracy. Concerned at the alarming growth in the phenomenon, this led to the creation of the IMB Piracy Reporting Centre in 1992, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

ICS

BIMCO

BIMCO is the principal independent not for profit trade association of the private shipping industry including ship owners, managers, brokers, agents and many other stakeholders with vested interests in some 65 % of the world’s tonnage. The mission to Seafarers

The Mission to Seafarers, formerly called The Missions to Seamen, cares for the spiritual and practical welfare of all seafarers regardless of nationality or faith. Through the network of chaplains, staff and volunteers in 230 ports worldwide, they reach out to them by visiting them on their ships, offering a welcome and whatever help may be needed. Families of those seafarers who have been caught up in incidents of piracy are more than welcome to speak to the Mission to Seafarers for help and guidance.
